What happens in your Tai Chi
class?
Students learn and advance at the rate that suits each individual. We
are all built differently, are at various ages, and have differing levels of
fitness and flexibility. Your instructors, Si Hing Albert and Si Jie Denise, monitor
your individual progress continuously.
Classes start with gentle warm up movements and progress to the
traditional Tai Chi routines and meditations. By the end of the class, you know
that you have used your mind and body to achieve the special balance that is
Tai Chi.
Your body will thrive on the Tai Chi routines, achieving a higher level
of physical fitness, balance and co-ordination than you dreamed possible. Even accomplished
athletes are surprised at the special physical benefits of practising Tai Chi.
A high level of relaxation is achieved, and mind-body co-ordination is improved. When performing Tai Chi, you will find that you are totally transported away from your day to day concerns. You can achieve this more often by practising Tai Chi at home as well as in class.
At the Golden Lion Academy - Mornington Peninsula we offer you the following forms.
Beijing 24 Yang style, International 42 competition routine, Beijing 48 Yang style, Sword 32, Sword 16, Fan & Push Hands.
Dao Yin Chi Kung: This incorporates ancient Chinese Health exercises dating from 3000 years ago. It provides a gradual approach to improvement in fitness and health in all the systems of the body. The main emphasis is on curing the body.
Grading Classes: This class is structured towards the Golden Lion Tai Chi ranking system. The major focus is the various exercises, techniques and forms required for grading to Black Sash and then Master Level.
Private Tuition is available (advance booking required).
Corporate sessions: These are tailored to your requirements and we travel to your venue (i.e. not confined to the Mornington Peninsula). Can be as short as 1/2 hour or as long as you choose. Suitable as a "time out" break within intensive technical courses or as a major focus within a health based forum or Occupational Health & Safety type course.
Why is Tai Chi so special?
The ancient Chinese art of Tai Chi is designed to improve the flow of
Chi throughout your body. A simple translation of chi is "life
energy", which circulates all over the body in all living creatures,
including people. A smooth flow of this energy results in good health, and in
contrast illness follows when the flow is interrupted. No blockages to Chi flow
means an optimal level of health (physical and mental) for the individual.
The gentle Tai Chi movements are a form of moving meditation that open
your body to the natural flow of Chi. Thus, the benefits of Tai Chi are not
simply the benefits of physical exercise.
Who are my Instructors?
At Mornington Peninsula Golden Lion, your Tai Chi instructors are

Hing Albert Porta and *Si Jie Denise Appelbee. Golden Lion's Director of Tai Chi,

We suggest that you take great care in choosing your Tai Chi school. As you are using your Chi or energy in performing the movements, it is important that your teacher has a good understanding of the art.
Golden Lion Wins Gold in World Tournament
Fifteen students of Golden Lion were chosen to represent Australia to compete at the Inaugural World Wushu Festival held in Zhengzhou, China, October 2004. Wushu is a generic term that encompasses the traditional Chinese martial arts of Kung Fu and Tai Chi.
The festival attracted over 2,000 competitors from 60 countries and was held in two stadiums built specially for the event. Athletes of various age groups, from children to veterans competed in both traditional and modern arts. There were over 100,000 people at the opening ceremony, which displayed traditional arts like Beijing opera as well as modern popular music over two and a half hours.
Students of Golden Lion won a total number of 9 Gold, 16 silver and 4 Bronze medals. In addition, the Gold Cup for best group event was also won by the Golden Lion team. In the past 15 years, Golden Lion has regularly had students selected for the Australian team in World Championships.
